04 Oct World to NYC Global Industry Challenge
Last week MetroTech participated in the World to NYC’s Fall Global Industry Challenge program that invited the world’s most innovative companies to New York City to discuss how the City, businesses, and citizens can capitalize on the sector’s huge potential. A rigorous selection process promised to bring only the best companies to the city. The New York City Economic Development Corporation, together with its partner New York International, held a second iteration of the W2NYC program with a focus on Smart and Sustainable Cities. During the three-day event, visiting companies were able to connect with other entrepreneurs, investors, academic institutions, community groups, government agencies, energy providers, and large corporations and explore the latest industry trends. There were many opportunities to present and pitch their companies and pick up valuable advice on how to make it in NYC–personally as well as on a business level. The winning company, OptiRTC, received flights, accommodation, and admission to Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona in November. Also highlighting the event was Site visits and discussions with top level executives at Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn Grange, Department of Transportation Control Room, BMW iVentures, the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services, New York City Transit Office of Strategic Innovation and Technology, and ConEdison.
